Body Contouring After Weight Loss

Completing Your Weight Loss Journey

Losing a significant amount of weight is an extraordinary accomplishment.

Whether your weight loss was achieved through healthy lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, or today's highly effective GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Zepbound®, or Mounjaro®, many patients discover that excess skin and changes in body contour remain long after the weight is gone.

Loose skin can interfere with clothing, exercise, hygiene, self-confidence, and the ability to fully enjoy the remarkable success you've achieved.

Body contouring surgery is designed to complete that journey by restoring body proportions, improving comfort, and helping patients enjoy the benefits of their weight loss.

Every Weight Loss Patient Is Different

No two patients lose weight in the same way.

Some patients develop loose abdominal skin but have little excess skin elsewhere. Others experience significant changes involving the arms, breasts, thighs, back, buttocks, or lower body.

During your consultation, Dr. Branch carefully evaluates:

  • Your current weight and weight stability
  • The amount and location of excess skin
  • Skin quality
  • Fat distribution
  • Overall health and nutritional status
  • Your personal priorities and goals

A treatment plan is then developed specifically for you.

Timing Matters

One of the most common questions is:

"When should I have body contouring surgery?"

In general, patients achieve the safest and most predictable results after their weight has stabilized.

Whether weight loss occurred naturally, following bariatric surgery, or with GLP-1 medications, maintaining a relatively stable weight for several months before surgery helps maximize healing and improve long-term results.

During your consultation, Dr. Branch will help determine the ideal timing for your particular situation.

Planning Surgery Safely

Many body contouring procedures can safely be combined, allowing patients to recover from several operations at the same time while minimizing the total number of surgeries.

Safety always comes first.

Rather than performing every desired procedure during one operation, Dr. Branch carefully plans surgery so that operative time generally remains under approximately six hours whenever possible. This approach helps reduce surgical risk while allowing patients to recover more comfortably.

Depending on your anatomy and goals, procedures commonly combined include:

  • Tummy tuck with liposuction
  • Breast lift with arm lift
  • Breast surgery with abdominal contouring
  • Liposuction of multiple areas
  • Body lift with selected complementary procedures

More extensive transformations are often performed in carefully planned stages to maximize both safety and aesthetic outcome.

Nearly all body contouring procedures are performed on an outpatient basis in our private, AAAASF-accredited Cosmetic Surgery Center, allowing patients to recover comfortably at home.

Healing After Weight Loss Surgery

Many patients are surprised to learn that individuals who have experienced significant weight loss often heal remarkably well.

Although excess skin may appear thin, it typically retains an excellent blood supply because it previously supported a much larger body. This healthy circulation frequently contributes to reliable wound healing when patients maintain good nutrition, stable weight, and avoid nicotine.

Dr. Branch carefully evaluates nutritional status, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors before recommending surgery to optimize healing and minimize complications.

Procedures Commonly Performed After Weight Loss

Depending on your individual needs, body contouring may include:

  • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
  • Liposuction
  • Arm lift (brachioplasty)
  • Breast lift (mastopexy)
  • Breast reduction
  • Body lift
  • Fat grafting to restore selected areas of lost volume

Many of these same procedures are also appropriate for patients who have not experienced major weight loss. The principles of restoring balance, proportion, and natural appearance remain the same regardless of how your body has changed.

Our Philosophy

Body contouring is not about creating perfection.

It is about restoring comfort, confidence, proportion, and function after the tremendous accomplishment of weight loss.

Every recommendation is individualized. Some patients benefit from a single procedure. Others achieve the best result through a carefully staged treatment plan developed over several months.

The consultation is where we determine the safest approach, establish realistic expectations, and design a plan that reflects your goals while preserving long-term health and well-being.

Completing your weight loss journey deserves the same thoughtful planning and individualized care that helped you achieve it in the first place.
